Sitzendorf and the
Porcelain Manufactury
1370
Sycedorf
This is the date of the oldest officially record mentioned in a testamentary document of the prince of Schwarzenberg. The name is related to the prince Sizzo of Kefernburg. He lived in the 11.th century and is famous as the founder of the house of the Schwarzburger princes.
1465
a „Smettenstatt“ in Sitzendorf is recorded. The owner was Hans Groß, called „Hans Hammersmed“ who also had another forge in Blechhammer. 1564 the princes changed his posession in a manorial mill.
1491
Emperor Friedrich 3. gives the concession to the princes of Schwarzburg to wash gold in the Schwarza-valley. So the aristocrats created employment for the people of Sitzendorf.The gold was washed out of the river gravel and the slopes above the river, where it was included since the glacial period. Even in gold - mining the people were engaged. For the last time gold was found in 1800 in the Schwarza near the Pocher - bridge.
1525/26
Inhabitants of Sitzendort are part of the farmer riots: they join the "Forest Gang" and are marching to Paulinzella capturing the monastery. From there they moved over Stadtilm to Arnstadt in order to present their demands to the princes." 13 Wirdten
(landlords.) and 2 Hausgenos (comrades) " are sentenced after the failure of the riot to pay high fines to the office of Arnstadt.
1618
The administrator of the princes of Schwarzburg, Günther Brömel, gives the prince Philipp Ernst von Gleichen the permission to establish a copper metallurgical plant below Sitzendorf. 500.000 kilogramms of ore were carried from Böhlen.1616 Brömel had already opened another plant above Sitzendorf and sold it 1621 to the secret administrator of the princes of Magdeburg, Christoph Drechsler jun., located in Arnstadt. He possessed ore - mines near Glasbach, Böhlen, Allersdorf, Lichta, Königsee, Unterschöbling and Aschau. 1625 Drechsler delivered 10.000 kilogramms of copper to Hamburg.
 
1727
Foundation of a blue - color plant in Sitzendorf. From 1753 - 1758 cobalt, since 1826 leaded white is processed.
1760
Georg Heinrich Macheleidt, candidate of theology, born 1723 in Cursdorf, resident of Sitzendorf, gets the princely concession of Johann - Friedrich of Schwarzburg - Rudolstadt to establish a porcelain - manufactury in Sitzendorf. 1762 the manufactury is moved to Volkstedt by princely order.
1768
Sitzendorf has got his own school and teacher and counts 300 inhabitants.
1834-65
A lot of Sitzendorfer families are forced by poverty to move to Northern America, Brasilia and Australia.Their migration is published in the " Princely weekly newspaper of Schwarzburg -Rudolstadt".
1839
The singer's union " Harmony " i founded. The members of the union, only men, dedicate a club's flag in 1889, the 50.th anniversary of the union. 1914 the 75. th anniversary is celebrated and the flag is decorated with another banner. Since 1945 also women are allowed as union members. 1994 the singer's union had it's 155 th. birthday and a special event was celebrated.
1850
Wilhelm Liebmann, born in Lichte, a landlord and resident of Sitzendorf, is honoured with the permission of re - establishing a porcelain manufactury in Sitzendorf.
1858
A terrible fire destroyed all the premises of the manufactury, leavin only the ovens. The premises were well insured and built up again
1874
A sport's union is founded. The managing commitee directs a petition to the magistrate for building a sport's hall.
1883
The district's bank is opened. Sitzendorf becomes the location of the princely district office.
 
1884
The fire brigade is reorganized: it consists of theDistrict fire chief, subsitute, 16 men - fire brigade, 16 men guards, 12 men rescue team, water support 12 men and 14 men for hooks and ladders.
1884
The manufactury starts the production of lace - figures, decorated alike Meiß'ner style.The chairmen are Alfred and Carl Wilhelm Voigt.
1890
Another branch is opened in Unterweißbach. Both manufacturies together employ 300 workers. Electricity is performed by a steam machine ( 110 V AC). The electric power changes the village: before the work was done in the shine of oil - lamps. Sitzendorf can count 700 inhabitants now.
1896
The manufactury is structured as share - holder company with a foundation stock of 1.000.000 Mark. The owner of the manufactury, the secret councilor of commerce Albert Schönau, is the share holder.

1899-1900
The tracks for the railway are built connecting Oberrottenbach and Katzhütte.
Sitzendorf gets its own trainstation. The burning of porcelain is changed from wood to coal. Production and transport become more cheap, the manufactury more cometitive. Since 1872 the plant owners and fabricants of the Königsee district had been fighting for the railway.
1908-10
Sitzendorf constructs its own water supply
1913
Sitzendorf is recommended in „Meyer`s Travel Guide“ as area for cure and relaxation. Tourism started in 1890 in Blechhammer`s brewery Böttner. Since that time guests came by coaches using the mail-road from Bad Blankenburg, built from 1798 - 1804. The house „Hugo Bergmann“ is opened 1900 as the first tourist resort.
